We are an independent financial comparison platform based in Johannesburg, South Africa. Our purpose is simple: help South Africans find and compare regulated loan and funding products without the confusion, the pressure, or the fine print surprises.
PrimeCompare researches, reviews, and compares South African loan products β short-term personal loans, business funding, debt consolidation, and related financial services. We publish independent reviews, comparison guides, and educational content to help borrowers make informed decisions before they apply anywhere.
We are not a lender. We do not make credit decisions and we do not have access to your application data. When you click through to a lender from our site, you are dealing directly with that lender β PrimeCompare earns a referral fee in some cases, which is disclosed on every page. This fee never affects our editorial rankings or recommendations.
Every lender on PrimeCompare is assessed on eligibility criteria, loan amounts, payout speed, NCR registration status, fee transparency, and customer experience. We do not take payment to be included in our comparisons.
We list only lenders registered with the National Credit Regulator under the National Credit Act. South Africans have strong consumer protections under the NCA β we only direct you to lenders who operate within that framework.
When PrimeCompare earns a commission, we say so β clearly, on every page. Our affiliate relationships are disclosed in the footer, in review pages, and in our full affiliate disclosure. Our rankings are not for sale.
When we evaluate a lender, we look at the following criteria consistently across every product we review:
We update our reviews when product details change. If you notice outdated information, contact us via the contact page and we will verify and update promptly.
The National Credit Regulator (NCR) is the regulatory body responsible for overseeing the South African credit industry under the National Credit Act 34 of 2005. Every lender listed on PrimeCompare must hold a valid NCR registration as a credit provider. You can verify any lender's registration directly on the NCR website at ncr.org.za. We strongly recommend doing so before submitting any loan application. If a lender cannot be verified on the NCR register, do not apply with them β irrespective of their marketing claims.
PrimeCompare is operated from Johannesburg, South Africa. We focus exclusively on the South African financial market β we understand the local regulatory environment, the specific lenders that operate here, and the financial realities that South African borrowers face. All content on the site is written with a South African audience in mind, using South African terminology, currency, and regulatory context.
Our team researches products, writes and edits reviews, and maintains the comparison tables. We do not use automated content generation for our lender assessments β every review reflects actual research into the product at the time of publication.
PrimeCompare earns revenue through referral commissions. When a user clicks through from our site to a lender and completes an application, we may earn a fee from that lender. This is standard practice for comparison platforms globally and is how sites like us can operate without charging users.
Important: this commission structure does not influence our editorial rankings. A lender paying a higher referral fee does not get a better review or a higher position in our comparison tables. Our ranking criteria are published above and applied consistently. If we believe a lender is not suitable for most of our audience, we will say so β regardless of our commercial relationship with them.
Every page where an affiliate link appears carries a clear disclosure statement. You can read the full version in our affiliate and commercial disclosure.
We take responsible lending seriously. Short-term loans can be a useful tool for urgent, short-duration cash needs β but they are not a long-term financial solution and they carry real costs. Before you apply for any loan through our platform, we encourage you to:
If you are in a debt spiral or experiencing serious financial difficulty, a short-term loan is unlikely to help. We recommend contacting the National Debt Helpline or a registered debt counsellor rather than taking on additional credit.
